MOSCOW. Nov 21 (Interfax) - The Russian Grain Union intends to facilitate grain exports to Southeast Asia.

To this end, the Russian Grain Union has concluded a cooperation agreement with Sojitz, a Japanese trading and investment corporation, which plans to start grain supplies from Russia to Asian markets in 2010, the union told Interfax. "The union will look for partners for the Japanese company, arrange negotiations with Russian companies, and provide essential information," said Anton Shaparin, a union spokesman.

The Russian Grain Union and Sojitz, with assistance from a number of Russian agencies, will also hold a conference entitled 'Russia and the Southeast Asian Grain Market: Prospects of Trade Development' in February 2010 to explore the Southeast Asian market and its demand for Russian grain and to look for potential partners.

The Union's interest in this densely populated and rapidly developing region is high, as its demand for grain, primarily wheat, is growing fast, Shaparin said.

Experts estimate the region's demand for grain imports at up to 30 million tonnes a year. "Entering new markets is strategically important for Russian grain, and this particularly concerns Siberia and the Far East," Shaparin said.
