Russia: Large lysine plant commissioned for 2015

A large complex for the deep processing of wheat and production of lysine is planned for Tumen Oblast, central Russia, to be completed by the end of 2015, according to a press release by the regional government. The new plant will be located in the Ishim district of the region. And according to project representatives all the pre-project construction has already been completed.

It was also reported that in mid-February the negotiations were completed for the purchase of the grain storage equipment, with a capacity of 60,000 tons of grain. The new plant will produce lysine, which is widely used around the world in animal feeding as effective supplements, however as yet not by Russian farmers.

Tyumen Governor, Vladimir Yakushev, comment while visiting of the construction site that the essence of the project is the introduction of new biotechnologies, allowing it to achieve deep processing of agricultural products. "This is an investment in the economy of tomorrow, in the bio economy. It's a very promising," he said.

According to the Department of Investment Policy and State Support of Enterprising of the Tyumen region, the total investment in the project will amount to RUB 3.8 billion (US$ 125 million).

When finished the complex is expected to process 120,000 tons of wheat a year. However, how much lysine the new plant will produce it is still unknown.
