Launch of grain processing plant in Rostov Oblast could be delayed.

05.10.2014 07:59:19

The commissioning of LLC Donbiotech's grain processing plant for amino acids production, which is currently under development in Rostov Oblast, Russia, may be moved from 2014 to 2Q 2015 or 3Q 2015. The delay is caused by some problems, including funds, infrastructure and conflict with energy company Lukoil-Rostovenergo over the connection of the facility to the Volgodonsk CHP power plant. The project, a joint venture between Donbiotech and Germany-based Evonik, will include facilities to manufacture Biolys-branded granulated lysine sulfate and by-products like starch, gluten and bran. The wheat processing units are capable of converting 250,000 tonnes/y of wheat into 100,000 tonnes/y of lysine, which are meant to be delivered to animal feed and processing industry markets. A construction permit has already been secured by Donbiotech and just needs to obtain requisite files by Oct 2014 to formally start the plant's construction.

Russia: Moscow promoting biotechnology and genetic engineering

07.11.2013 04:06:11

The Russian government has approved a development programme for the biotechnology and genetic engineering industries for the period to 2019. Included in this will be increased use of renewable energy sources. The market in biotechnology and genetically modified products was Roubles 128 bn (EUR 2.92 bn) in 2012. Roubles 180 bn is targeted for 2015 and Roubles 300 bn for 2018. With exports of just Roubles 1 bn, Russia's share of the market in biotechnology and genetically modified products is just 0.1%. If everything goes to plan, exports will grow to Roubles 50 bn. Some products such as biofuels or compostable products are still not produced in Russia: this too will change. Refineries for biofuels and plant-based fuel additives are to be erected. The proportion of biofuel and additives in overall fuel consumption is to increase to 8% in 2018.
