Russia's state-run grain trader, the United Grain Co (UGC) estimates investments in infrastructure necessary to raise the country's grain export capacities by 2015 at $1.79 billion, a UGC report showed on Tuesday. "The increased efficiency and competition on the infrastructure services market will permit cutting grain costs by up to $20 per tonne," said the report by UGC CEO Sergei Levin, prepared for the International Grain Council in London, a copy of which was obtained by Reuters.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has called on the government to make sure conditions are in place for Russia to increase its agricultural export potential, and to continue efforts to create an effective mechanism for smoothing-out seasonal price fluctuation on agricultural products. "We need to provide conditions for our export potential to increase, to develop domestic market infrastructure. I have grain in mind, our potential is growing, but we need to move toward opening markets for other kinds of agricultural products. It's possible," Putin said as he opened a Friday meeting dealing with issues of budget-spending planning for 2011-2013.

Russia is likely to harvest this year 90 million metric tons of grain and not 97 million tons as was forecast earlier, the agriculture ministry said Monday. The ministry said about 15% of winter grains had been destroyed by bad weather, resulting in winter grain harvest forecast this year going down to 42 million tons whereas the harvest last year was 46 million tons. Spring grain harvest is forecast at about 48 million tons.

Russian agricultural company Pava is seeking to raise over U.S. $100 million in a private share offering, RBC Daily reported Monday citing sources on the financial markets. The company is seeking to raise funds for the implementation of two projects - construction of a plant for deep processing of grain and purchase of land, one of the sources said.
