MOSCOW, Nov 2 (PRIME-TASS) -- The Russian government has started interventions on the grain market, Agriculture Minister Yelena Skrynnik told ITAR-TASS Monday.

The government bought 5,400 tonnes of third grade wheat at a price of 3,300 rubles per tonne from one agricultural producer in the Altai Region during the first trading session, Skrynnik said.

Russia's grain harvest amounted to 101 million tonnes in gross weight as of Monday, Skrynnik said. The net weight of grain is expected to be 7%-8% less than this amount, she added.

Agricultural producers offered 55,300 tonnes of third and fourth grade wheat on Monday, said Sergei Levin, head of United Grain Company, the government's agent for grain purchases.

The government has allocated 9.5 billion rubles for grain purchases this year, Levin said.
